Why did you choose to come to Dwarf no Cachette?
Well because I love noods and they have pretty good ones. Honestly, I haven't been everywhere, but I feel like they’re the best I've had in Winnipeg - so far. I haven't tried this Dancing Noodle place, I want to go there because they make their own noods.
When did your love for noods begin?
I'd say maybe when I was 10, I'd just have ramen noodles from the package, they were very popular in school. You would eat them straight up, you'd put the powder in, shake it up and eat it. It was really cool to have those, and if you shared it you were the coolest kid. You could get kids to do anything if you’d share your ramen with them, seriously - it was a form of currency. You could just say "act like a dog" and then you'd give them a handful of noodles. My mom never let have raw ramen to sell or share because she said it would give me worms.
Is ramen your favourite type of noodle?
Yes, ramen is my life. I also like pan fried noodles, those are maybe my top favourite, like chow mein.
“This one chick I was talking to was like, ‘oh, you’re going to want to have noods after.’ Um, very disappointing. There’s one nood scene.”
What kind of food did you like eating growing up?
I love sushi. I didn't like fish growing up, I hated any kind of fish but I was really interested in it and I wanted to like it, but thought it was disgusting. I was 10 or 12 and my friend was super rich, and she wanted to go for sushi so asked me to go. And I was like, "you know what? I actually do, I've been craving sushi, I've never had it, but I feel like I want to try it out." So she took us to this sushi place, she paid for us to get a ton of stuff. She was like "just pick a number!" I tried it, and it changed my life and I love sushi and I'll eat any kind of fish now. She was an exchange student from Korea living with my grandparents and we would hang out. She had an allowance, her family would send her money every month, so she would take me out for sushi. I feel bad, like I need to take her out for sushi, but we 100% lost contact, I owe her a lot.
Well let's shout her out.
Heera, I want to buy you sushi, thank you for changing my life.
Coke or Pepsi?
Coke. Coke is sweeter and Pepsi is more carbonated, that's my stance, I'm not changing it.
Chicken fingers or fish sticks?
Ok well fish sticks just sounds like a bad idea. I think I've had them, but definitely chicken fingers.
Adidas or Nike?
Adidas.
Toyota or Ford?
Toyota, are you kidding me?
Courtney Love or Courtney Cox?
That's a tough choice. I've never listened to her music but I really respect that she made it so I'll go with Courtney Love, also because she's friends with Marilyn Manson.
When did you get into Manson?
I think I was 15 or 16. Last winter I saw him, I drove to Wisconsin throughout the night. I didn't realize his concert was the next day so I just drove overnight to make it.
What is your favourite Marilyn Manson rumour, or can you put any of them to rest?
Ok well everyone talks about how he removed a rib, I don't think he did. He said he didn't. He's super cool, I don't think he needs to do that. He did get people to spit on him, at his concerts he'd be like, "spit on me" but I mean how much spit can you really get on you from that far away? Maybe that's a rumour too. I met him, maybe I should have asked.
What did you say to him?
Honestly I was freaking out. I kind of blacked out. I wasn't prepared, I wasn't ready for it. I wasn't in the moment, I wasn't present, I was like, 'what the shit, I can't believe this is happening.' He's very nice. He said I had a nice smile and he hugged me twice. Two times. I recently saw him in Winnipeg so I've seen him three times. I was really upset, I missed the first song and the first is always the best, it's the most exciting because they come onto the stage. I was super far back on the floor. He wasn't happy…it wasn't his best concert. He didn't even say bye, he wasn't even like, "bye guys, the concerts over," he just left. He didn't even ask us to spit on him.
What kind of van do you have?
My cool van? Magnetic Sunshine? It's a Volkswagen camper van.
Can you tell us why you have two massive vans?
Well Magnetic Sunshine we got three or four years ago and it's from 1972 so it's highly unreliable and requires a lot of upkeep. You can't really drive it in the winter time for various reasons, so it's only for trips. I actually want to convert my other van into a camper van because it's more reliable. I honestly never thought I'd be this person, but I was super interested in travelling and exploring, I really like experiencing new things and I like road trips. I didn't know how it would go, and then we got this camper van and it has a bed, a sink, a table and a fridge and immediately I was like 'OK I want to go to California to find Betty White.' So we went. It's really small, living in a van. It doesn't have a washroom, so you have to be creative. We did that for 40 days and I was like, 'this is the best ever. I don't need anything more than this van.' It was so free, go wherever, get up whenever, see whatever. You don't need to plan anything. Well you kind of do. But if all else fails you can just sleep on a random residential street and just leave in the morning and you're probably fine. I would do it all the time but I live here.
What do you love about Betty White?
I think she's just very much a badass. She's funny, I love the Golden Girls, she's very talented and she reminds me of my Grandma. And she's like, 98.

Are you a Sailor Moon gal?
I loved Sailor Moon growing up, that was the coolest shit, when she does her transformation thing, that's cool. I want to transform. My friend Heera and I would actually watch that, because it came out online somewhere. We would order pizza - she would order pizza, stuffed crust, pizza. It's extra to get the crust stuffed. I owe her a lot.
What have you been watching lately?
Well Rick and Morty's pretty cool...
I watch movies a lot. I've been going to the movie theatre, which I normally don't do but my friends are super into it. I saw Underwater recently. It's Kristen Stewart, going underwater. Really deep. It's kind of the whole movie. It was a dumb movie, I was disappointed. I shouldn't have had such high expectations. It was really sad actually, we went to go watch Like A Boss and that was really bad, so we skipped out and went to Underwater. So we watched two halves of bad movies.
What's a really good movie you saw recently?
I watched Heater, it was really good. Actually I watched Parasite, and I didn't know what that was about, and then I watched Lighthouse and didn't know what it was, then I watched Heater without knowing. I like watching movies without having any context as to what I'm going to see, because then I have no expectations. I really liked all three movies, and I wonder if part of it was the fact that I didn't know what I was getting myself into.
Who is your dream collaboration?
That's so hard. I've been super consumed with Indigenous women filmmakers, and I've worked with some of them but I'm super obsessed with Elle-Máijá Tailfeathers, she's super cool. Darlene Naponse, Caroline Monnet is really cool, Alexandra Lazarowich, maybe Taika would be cool to work with. I guess if I was going to go with someone super famous I'd go with David Lynch. I'm just super inspired by these women that are doing really cool stuff, they're just badasses.
Last year for the Indigenous Film Summit, we brought in Tantoo Cardinal and hung out with her all night, it was amazing. We had this afterparty and she was hanging out with us, then we went somewhere else, she was drinking and singing songs, she stayed out until like 3am and had a flight at 5am. She sang ‘Jolene’ but with my name. It was the best time of my life.
Congrats on getting into Slam Dance, who's the person you'd be most excited to come to your screening?
Marilyn Manson and Betty White. Marilyn wouldn't care though. I made a film for him once, because I realized I'm not actually trying to achieve my goals properly, and my goal is to work with him. So if I want to work with him, I have to make film he likes. I haven't released it, it's a one take Super 8, it's like a cult film.
What would you order from that Utah Starbucks that Quentin Tarantino freaked out at?
Probably a peppermint tea, or maybe a peach tea?
What's your favourite mustard?
I think you would get Dijon mustard all the time, because you buy the food. I like really bally mustard - as many balls as possible, and I'm into it. I like the balls.
